Market ended higher but off day's highs as investors booked profits. Banks, capital goods and power stocks were the top performers.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 14,928.53, up 444.70 points or 3.07 per cent. It touched a high of 15,107.01 and low of 14,917.06.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was up 126.05 points or 2.90 per cent at 4,478.35. The broader index touched a high of 4,558 and low of 4,358.30.
BSE Midcap Index closed 1.15 per cent higher at 5819.74 and BSE Smallcap Index advanced 1.05 per cent to 6,977.58.
Sterlite Industries (6.16%), State Bank of India (4.90%), ICICI Bank (4.84%), NTPC (4.64%), and Larsen & Toubro (4.54%) were the major Sensex gainers.
There were no losers on the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1657 advances and 1038 declines.
