Buzz over Infotech Enterprises buy

Infotech Enterprises is believed to be in talks to acquire a geospatial services consultancy entity. Though the proposed acquisition is likely to be small in size and may not add much to the company revenues, analysts said the move will widen its services in the geospatial segment.

Senior company officials were unavailable for comment till the time of going to the press. In May 2007, the company had bought a majority stake in Hyderabadbased Geospatial Integrated Solutions.

The company expects the geospatial market in India and the Middle East at Rs 1,000 crore and expect to see a 12% growth rate over the next five years. On Thursday, Infotech shares rose 4.8% to Rs 258.

Bottoms up for core sector, health & education

The run-up to the Union Budget, is usually abuzz with the likely sops that various industries could receive. This time, the probable favourites thrown up were infrastructure, healthcare and education. Accordingly, major sops are expected to boost the sagging healthcare sector of the country.

Analysts expect healthcare services, including hospitals, to gain an infrastructure status, a move that is likely to inject more capital into the segment and enable tax incentives. Most hospital chains are going through investment phases and need huge funds to finance expansion.

With the government’s several healthcare initiatives proving to be ineffective, analysts feel the development of private healthcare facilities would be crucial for the development of this sector.

Also, such incentives would boost the industry’s positioning as a major hub for medical tourism for overseas patients.
