Varun Shipping good FY 2008 results

Varun Shipping Company gained 0.44% to Rs 79.65 at 13:59 IST on BSE after posting 59.73% surge in net profit to Rs 225.78 crore in the year ended March 2008 over the year ended March 2007.

The stock hit a high of Rs 83.90 and a low of Rs 79.55 so far during the day. The stock had a 52-week high of Rs 110.50 on 4 January 2008 and the stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 53.05 on 17 May 2007.

The company’s current equity is Rs 150 crore. Face value per share is Rs 10.

The current price of Rs 79.65 discounts its Q3 December 2007 annualised EPS of Rs 19.65, by a PE multiple of 4.05.

Varun Shipping Company’s freight & charter hire income rose 26.49% to Rs 850.81 crore in the year ended March 2008 over the year ended March 2007.

In March 2008, Varun Shipping Company acquired India’s third largest anchor handling and towing supply vessel.

The company's principal activity is to transports hydrocarbons and bulk commodities in the wet, dry bulk, gas and chemical sectors by means of various vessels. It operates in the above-mentioned sectors with a diverse mix of vessels and also in the offshore services sector.
